The Setup

Four players are each dealt 13 cards from a standard 52-card deck. Spades are always the trump suit in Callbreak — this never changes, so build your strategy around it from your first look at your hand.

Make Your Bid

Before a single card is played, each player declares how many tricks (out of 13) they believe they'll win. The minimum bid is 1. Your bid is your contract — meet it and score; miss it and lose points.

Play the Tricks

Players take turns playing one card each per trick. You must follow the lead suit if you can. If you can't, you may play a spade (trump) to win the trick, or discard another suit. The highest card of the lead suit wins — unless a spade is played.

Scoring

If you meet or exceed your bid, you score points equal to your bid. Winning extra tricks beyond your bid each adds 0.1 as a bonus fraction. Fall short and your bid number is deducted from your score. After 5 rounds, highest score wins the pot.
